The “Back To School” initiative focusses on those children who drop out of school, for a variety of reasons and personal challenges, and helps them return to formal schooling.
A survey by the National Statistical Office (NSO) of the government of India has revealed that 1 out of every 8 students enrolled in a school or college in India tends to drop out midway without completing the education. Over 62% of all dropouts happen before college. Out of 100 students, 29 per cent of girls and boys drop out of school before completing the full cycle of elementary education, and often they are the most marginalised children. We have found that children often dropout due to lack of finances, child labour, academic difficulties, inability to cope or lack of support. To mitigate these problems, our volunteers look for these children at traffic signals, railway station, bus stands and begin the process of integrating these students back into schools. Over 60 children have been re-admitted to school due to the tireless efforts of our volunteer teachers. We strive to provide them grade appropriate levels of learning so that they feel confident when they return to school.
