“Meals on Wheels” is an initiative to eliminate hunger through food distribution. A key feature of this initiative is that we cook nutritious food and serve it free to people living on the streets, the physically challenged, the mentally challenged, malnourished children and elderly people. Many individuals support this by contributing raw vegetables, food grains, oil and spices.
In June 2022, ONGC generously gifted BDF a vehicle exclusively dedicated to our Meals On Wheels initiative. We expanded our scope of this initiative by using this vehicle to pick up left-over food from restaurants, marriage parties, hotels and individual donors to distribute to several slum dwellers. This also feeds into our philosophy of zero wastage of food. We ensure that the food is fresh, edible and maintain the dignity of those who receive it. With their support, BDF was able to suitably modify the van to meet specific needs of the activities like keeping the food warm in containers as an example.
On 1st January 2020, we started the Hunger Helpline Number -6399463996 / 7 /8, which allows people to connect with us for pick-up of excess food or those in distress in need of urgent food for a variety of reasons like illness, elderly people who rely on tiffin services, caretakers or groups in transit who are stranded for some reason. Once we receive a call, we immediately make arrangements for food and deliver it to those in need at zero cost.
