A Community Fridge is a refrigerator located in a public space. It enables people to share and stock the fridge with food or to take the food free of cost whenever needed.
The main aim of Community Fridge is to reduce food waste. It allows the underprivileged, and anyone else going through hard times to have easy access to fresh, nutritious food- anonymously and without judgement. Community Fridges are social spaces that enable privileged people to connect and serve their communities, in their own small way.
We installed our 1st Community Fridge in Uttarakhand in Premnagar, Dehradun on July 10th, 2019 and our 2nd one in Garhi Cantt, Dakra, Dehradun on December 15th, 2019.
The fridge is open 24/7 and people can deposit food at any time. Whether it is an autorickshaw driver, delivery boys or beggars, the fridge is open to all. It has been a positive initiative where residents have been extremely supportive, taken responsibility for refilling and have been taking care of the fridge every day.
